The Persistent Caravan: So [Sew] America Cares

  • The Project Space 521 NW 1st Ave Fort Lauderdale United States (map)

Join us at FATVillage Projects, from 1 to 4 pm, for an activation of 'The Persistent Caravan' installation, with a workshop by Aurora Molina and her project SO [SEW] AMERICA CARES.

SO [SEW] AMERICA CARES is a participatory social art project with a commitment to raise awareness about the lives of the children separated from their parents at the border, created by Aurora Molina. The project consists of 10 different kids' faces that have been laser etched on raw canvas to allow the participants to use any kind of thread, yarn, wool, fabric, paint, etc., to bring them to life. So (sew) America Cares has a plan: to "sew" them back, to create a quilt of 1000 faces representing a portion of these children.

'The Persistent Caravan' is a collaborative project by local artists Aurora Molina y Edison Penafiel, who have created an immersive installation focusing on socio-political issues relevant to both artists’ personal and collective experiences as migrants, including the physical and emotional struggles migrants live through their often-perilous journeys. The intent of presenting this work is to encourage dialogue around migration, displacement, and internment, all pressing matters of our current global society.

This is a FREE event and participation is encouraged for all skill levels. Both artists, Aurora Molina and Edison Penafiel, will be on attendance.
